Water Safety

Brief: To become Water Safe

Suitability: 2yrs and above

Class Size: 2-3 children per class

In this class, we teach your child to start swimming independently by building on the foundation learnt at water babies level.

These skills are learnt using back floats and pool noodles.

An assessment is required before moving on to Stroke Development.

Stroke Development (SD1)

Brief - Intro to Freestyle/Backstroke

Suitability: Must be watersafe

Class Size: 2-3 children per class

Moving away from paddling and starting to learn basic freestyle and backstroke.

Students are taught to float on their back and front plus how to submerge unassisted.

Crouching Jumps are also introduced.

Stroke Development (SD2)

Brief - Focusing on Breathing & Technique

Suitability: Must be able to swim basic freestlye/backstroke

Class Size: 2-3 children per class

After being able to swim a short distance in "basic" freestyle & backstroke proper technique is introduced.

This class will teach Side Breathing, which will assist your child to swim greater distances. 

Kickboards are introduced to build a stronger kick which is a key principal of Aqua Kidz. This will assist with better propulsion through the water. We will also introduce drills to help progress their Backstroke and Freestyle.

Standing Dives are introduced.

Stroke Development (SD3)

Brief - Intro to Breaststroke & Butterfly

Suitability: Must be able to swim over 15m with correct side breathing

Class Size: 2-3 children per class

With a solid foundation of Backstroke and Freestyle we continue to refine the breathing and stroke efficiency.

 

We move onto learning Breaststroke and Butterfly, even though loose elements may have been taught throughout earlier levels.

Flippers are introduced to assist in butterfly motion.

Squad Transition (ST)

Brief: Refining all strokes before moving to Mini Squad

Suitability: Must be above an SD3 level

Class Size: 2-3 children per class

The main objective is to spend time with your child to further refine their Freestyle and Backstroke technique, while more advanced Breaststroke techniques are introduced.

Our instructors will focus on encouraging your child to swim longer distances with simple drills and a greater awareness of stroke technique. We will also improve your child’s diving technique to ensure that they are more refined. Water safety plays an important part of your child’s education.
